Every week, we will share a new tooltip to save time when working in Adobe Premiere Pro.

If you’re syncing multi-cam clips with timecode and want to use the option to create a single multi-camera sequence, you need to assign camera angle or camera label metadata when you have many different source clips. If you have a lot of footage, you’ll want to assign this in a batch, since it’s faster than doing it one clip at a time when using list view in a bin. You do this by using the Metadata panel.

First, set your bin to List View and open the Camera Label / Camera Angle metadata preset you saved from our previous Tool Tip Tuesday.

Next, go to Window > Metadata and open the Metadata panel. In this panel, you can select multiple clips in a bin and assign any metadata parameter to all of those selected clips at once, provided you can find the metadata field in the Metadata panel.

You have to open the Metadata Display box and dig into the many different metadata tags to find Camera Label / Camera Angle.

Once the Metadata Display is open, search for the Camera Label / Camera Angle fields in the search box. They are part of the Dynamic Media parameters and not under the Premiere Pro Project Metadata, where you might expect them.

You have to be careful with “label” as there are other “label” tags (such as the color label), and we want CAMERA LABEL for this kind of multicam organization.

With this metadata field turned on, select the clips in a bin that you want to assign a specific Camera Label to, then type that label into the Camera Label field in the Metadata panel. That will assign that metadata to all of the selected clips. That’s much faster than assigning it one clip at a time.

While this example shows assigning this Camera Label metadata for just a few clips at a time, imagine if you have 50 or 100 of them. You can use the same method to assign other metadata fields, such as Comment or Description. One of our previous Tool Tip Tuesdays, “You should be using the Metadata Panel,” is the perfect companion for learning how to use the Metadata panel to its full potential.

You may have noticed that the Metadata panel has an option to “Save Settings” when you turn on and off specific metadata parameters. That can be useful in the Metadata panel if you use it often, assigning camera labels or seeking out iXML metadata. These parameters in the Metadata Display box are different than Project View Presets, even though you’re frequently looking at the same metadata parameters, so that is worth noting. Hopefully, this tip helps speed up multicam creation on complex multicam shoots.
