Miller Camera Support Equipment, known for their popular Miller tripods, is closing down, only two months after the company announced a new product, the TYTAN QR Clamp Nut. 

The Miller Quick Release Clamp Nut (TYTAN) is the industry standard upgrade to traditional clamp nuts for professional, broadcast, cinema and the production environment. Introduced last June, the TYTAN QR Clamp Nut, which integrates seamlessly with all Miller tripods and fluid heads, protecting investments and simplifying future upgrades, is the last product coming from a company that celebrated 70 years at NAB 2024. 

The end of Miller Tripods, only two years after it celebrated 70 years after its foundation,  was announced in an open letter by Mark and Diane Clementson, owners of the family business for 55 years. According to the open letter “This decision marks the conclusion of an extraordinary journey that began in Sydney in the mid 1940s and grew into a globally recognised Australian success story. While we look forward to retirement, we do so with immense pride in what Miller has contributed to the film and television industry worldwide.” 

In 1946, Robert Eric Miller, an Australian engineer from Sydney, introduced the world’s first patented fluid action tripod head, a breakthrough innovation that revolutionised film and television production. Prior to its invention, camera operators relied on noisy gear-driven systems that helped camera operators achieve smoother, more controlled pan tilt movements. It was the start of a company that is known as the provider of professional fluid heads and tripods for the world’s leading camera operators in the film and television industries.

The open letter ‘Celebrating 72 Years of Innovation and Service’ released by Mark and Diane Clementson notes that ” Our final day of trading will be 25th September 2026, and we will continue to support customers and fulfil existing commitments during the transition period.” 

The decision, the letter continues, “marks the conclusion of an extraordinary journey that began in Sydney in the mid 1940s and grew into a globally recognised Australian success story. While we look forward to retirement, we do so with immense pride in what Miller has contributed to the film and television industry worldwide.” 

In fact, the letter notes, “From those early beginnings, Miller grew into an internationally respected manufacturer, supporting broadcasters, cinematographers, filmmakers, and content creators across the world. Through changing technologies, evolving production environments, and generations of industry professionals, our commitment to innovation, quality, and customer service has remained central to who we are.” 

Mark and Diane Clementson also wrote that “While the business will be closing, the impact of Miller’s innovation will continue to be seen wherever cameras capture the stories, events, and moments that shape our world” adding a final note: “Thank you for being part of our story. We will always be proud of what we have achieved together and look forward to the next chapter in our retirement.”
